Course information

Our LC12ftSSC Start Sailing is an introductory Learn to Sail course that has two groups for those that have never sailed before, or have limited experience, and would like to learn the basic skills of sailing and the enjoyment of activities on the water. We offer:
* Beginners in Sabots – for children aged from 8 to 12
* Beginners in ILCA 4s (Lasers) – for older students up to the age of 17 with no or little experience.
This abridged pre-Christmas program runs for 3 days and covers both theory and practice.
What we provide:
- Training boats (10 Sabots, 4 ILCAs & 2 Pacers)
- Personal Flotation Devices - PFDs (Life Jackets)
- Sun protection cream
- A keen and dedicated group of instructors
- Graduation Certificate presentation & family BBQ on the last day
What you need to provide:
* Children keen to learn the basics of sailing that can swim at least 50 metres unassisted
* Parents who are keen for their children to take on sailing as a sport
* Warm clothes for sailing, including a hat
* Suitable footwear
* Lunch, Morning and Afternoon snacks and refreshments
Parental Assistance & Membership
We encourage parents to spend some time during the week assisting with the course, from as little as 2 hours to the whole week. This allows the club’s volunteers to focus on teaching and adds another layer of safety. Parents are encouraged to join as Associate members for only $60, which provides both access & personal accident insurance for the season while at the Club.
Location & Timing
At the Clubhouse, Longueville Wharf, Stuart Street, Longueville.
Course runs from 10am - 4pm each day. Early drop-off (9am) and late pick-up (5pm) is availablle to assist working parents - children will be supervised outside direct course hours.
Cost
New members $495 / existing LC12ftSSC members $345. Cost includes:
- Club Membership for the season (if not already a member)
- Complimentary Friday Transition to Racing coaching for 8 weeks following the course.
- Use of the Club's Learn to Sail Sabots or ILCAs in our Transition to Racing program immediately following the courses
- Use of the Club’s Learn to Sail Sabots or ILCAs in Club Racing immediately following the course for the season.
NSW Active Kids Vouchers are accepted.
LC12ftSSC is proud to be an Active Kids Provider. If you would like to use an Active Kids voucher, please submit the 16-digit voucher number during registration. Please also use the discount code ActiveKids when you get to the payment section so the $50 is deducted from your course fee.

Course Overview
This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate.

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
