Why not venture on-water with LC12ftSSC's Adult Try Sailing Experience?

It's designed for those adults that have never sailed before, or have limited experience, and would like to experience what dinghy sailing is about.  It's also an opportunity to discover one of the North Shore's hidden gems - the beautiful & peaceful Lane Cove River.  There is no better location in Sydney to Try Sailing!

The program is based on Australian Sailing's Sailing Experience, comprising a half-day of sailing with one of our AS-qualified instructors.  The experience runs for approximately 3hrs and primarily involves getting out on the water (after a safety briefing).  You'll learn how a sailing dinghy is rigged, launched, and controlled, and some basic sailing techniques.  It can also be adapted for a family that would like to try sailing a dinghy together.

It's a personalised small-group (or just one family) format, with 1 instructor per boat to ensure safety and maximise the learning experience.   It can be undertaken individually, but is better value in a small group (perfect for a parent & child).

The Pacer dinghy is 4m long, and comfortably takes two full-size adults (initially one is the instructor), but can easily accommodate up to two additional younger children.  Book a series of sessions, and the instructor can provide guidance & tuition from a RIB (powered support boat).

If you enjoy your experience we can assist you with a more comprehensive "Start Sailing" course - 12hrs of tuition - both onwater and theory.  Once that's completed your sailing options are unlimited - we'd love to welcome you to the Cherub, ILCA of 12ft Skiff fleet as a regular skipper or crew, or you could sail with your youngsters in a F11.  Or consider that yachting holiday you've always dreamed of!

What we provide:

  •    Training boats (2 Pacer dinghies)
  •    Personal Flotation Devices - PFDs (Life Jackets)
  •    A support boat - 1 or 2 of the Club's Highfield RIBs
  •    A dedicated AS-qualified instructor
  •    Sun protection cream

What you need to provide:

  * Enthusiasm, and the ability to swim at least 50 metres unassisted
  * Warm clothes for sailing, including a hat
  * Suitable footwear
  * Any snacks and refreshments

Membership

The course will require you to register for a Sailpass.  This is free, and provides you with Australian Sailing's Personal Accident insurance for the session.
