Transition to Racing (January to March, 2026)
On Fridays we are offering an opportunity for sailors to continue to develop their sailing skills with a club coach or instructor.
For Sabots and ILCA 4s it will be twilight coaching.
Our aim is to build onwater confidence and boat handling skills while introducing racing skills. We will have our RIBs on the water to support sailors.
This program is free for Dec25 & Jan26 Learn-to-Sail graduates, but requires a co-payment (subsidised by the Club) for existing sailors in the Sabot and ILCA 4 fleets. There will be a 6-session Silver Fleet coaching option for more experienced Sabot sailors, commencing 13th February (tbc - contact Will Northam).
Friday coaching program is -
4:30pm Arrive at Club & rig Sabots/ILCAs
4:55pm Briefing from Instructor
5:00pm Sabots & ILCAs on water for sail training
6:30pm Back onshore
6:45pm Pack boats away
6:55pm Short debrief from Instructor
7:00pm BBQ or head home
We encourage parents to assist their children as much as possible, especially getting the boats out, rigging, unrigging and putting them away. We also encourage parents to spend time on the support boats (RIBs). This is not essential however we don’t have as many instructors as we did for Learn to Sail and assisting will get the kids more time on the water.
For those sailing 2-up in the sabots it is helpful if your child has a sailing partner organized but not essential, just speeds up the process of getting on the water.
We ask one parent to join the Club as an Associate member ($50 for season) for insurance and access purposes.
We will come off the water around 6:30pm. Sailors & families are welcome to join the Twilight BBQ, or head off home.
