Killarney Heights Public School Music
The KHPS Band and Strings Ensemble Program is a valued addition to our extra-curricular music program, providing the opportunity for students to experience playing an instrument in a group.
About the program
The Music Committee is run by a dedicated team of KHPS parents. It is a sub-committee of the P&C.
The program also could not exist without the support of parent/carer helpers.

Joining our Band Program
Students in Year 2, 2023 are invited to join Training Band in 2024. Students in Year 3-5 are welcome to join the program.
The Band offers students the opportunity to play either a brass, woodwind or percussion instruments. (Bass Guitar, Bassoon, Clarinet, Euphonium, Flute, French Horn, Keyboard, Oboe, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba).
Students are required to attend two rehearsals per week (afternoon and lunchtime) and have private lessons with a tutor.
We have three Band Ensembles at KHPS
- Training Band
- Performance Band
- Jazz Band

Joining our Strings Program
Students in Year 1 to Year 5 are welcome to join the Strings Ensemble. The Strings Ensemble offers students the opportunity to learn & play a string instrument (Violin, Viola, Cello or Double Bass).
- We have a fabulous beginners strings program, where students receive a 1/2 hour lesson each week with our conductors in a small group of 6 students.
- We have small group lessons in
- The program duration is two terms. Students are not required to have a tutor and the program only lasts for 2 terms.
- Experienced students can join the junior, intermediate or senior ensembles. Students must be able to read music.
