Judo WA is pleased to invite referees of all levels to attend an upcoming Practical Referee Course delivered by Judo WA Referee Committee Chair, Celeste Knoester.

Celeste is an international-level referee currently active on the IJF World Judo Tour, bringing extensive experience from officiating at high-level international competitions.

The course is suitable for aspiring and emerging referees, experienced officials, coaches and anyone interested in improving their understanding of judo refereeing.

A minimum age of 10 years and minimum grade of orange belt are recommended for participants.

Course Program

The morning will consist of a theory session covering the rules of judo, referee positioning, decision-making and how to manage a contest effectively.

Following the lunch break, participants will take part in a practical session focused on refereeing contests in real time. Participants who are physically able should be prepared to have a light “rumble” themselves, allowing others to practise refereeing realistic contest situations.

The course is scheduled to conclude at 5:00pm; however, it may finish earlier depending on the progress and flow of the day.
