Under today’s Judo Shiai rules, you may only have five or ten seconds to escape a hold down technique before you lose a match. So, you must develop reactions to escape Newaza techniques.
This workshop will help develop those reactions, as well as to discuss principles for you to build your Judo foundations.
According to the father of Judo, Prof Kanno Jigoro, and the Kodokan, there are several ways to learn Judo; Randori, Kata, and workshops to learn and discuss Judo techniques. This Newaza workshop shall bring together all these elements to help you improve your Newaza Judo techniques. This workshop is aimed at helping all levels of Judo athletes to gain a deeper understanding of Osae-Komi-Waza (holding down techniques), Shime-Waza (choking techniques), Kansetsu-Waza (joint locking techniques), and escapes from these techniques.
This workshop is open all Judo Australia Judoka’s in all states and territories wanting to learn more about Newaza to improve their Shiai, Randori, and Kata. The workshop will be led by Ernie Wakamatsu, 5th Dan and former JA National Katame no Kata Champion with the help of the Judo NSW Kata team.
