The 2025 season has proved to be the most dynamic year of pivoting to manage limited resources ever! We’ve worked hard to accommodate as many player groups throughout the community, with the restricted number of court hours available to us.
On behalf of the HV Committee and Staff, we wish all of our Members, families and supporters a safe and happy holiday season. Send us your holiday pics if you’re on the beach, in the pool, at the park or snow playing volleyball!

On 5th December we gathered at NEX King Street Newcastle for the 3rd Annual Awards Night. It was a memorable night gathering with old friends and new teammates to bid farewell to the 2025 season, and acknowledge the performances of some of our community’s greatest achievers!

Like most of us, young people use social media in many different ways – including connecting with friends, keeping up with their interests, expressing themselves, learning about things and being entertained. They can also use it to explore who they are (or want to be), find a community, connect with a support network and express their identity.
Our volleyball community has evolved over the past 4-5 years through our use of social media to promote activity and getting involved; reminding families about future opportunities; celebrating achievements; requesting Members' involvement (volunteers, coaching, refereeing), and offering paid roles.
We have loved the positive environment created and supported by all of our online community as you share and celebrate each other. With your help this will continue in the future.

Looking ahead, we will review the various ways to communicate with players, families and extended networks as we launch the 2026 season.
We need to find the right balance between reaching parents & guardians directly and in good time to help with family decision making, reaching U18s following HV's social media on Facebook & Instagram, and sharing information with U16s not on social media platforms.
We will do our best and hope to ensure everyone wanting to play in 2026 is aware of the opportunities as they are available.
Please give your feedback and share your preferences for contact from HV by completing THIS SHORT SURVEY for us to consider your preferences and work on this for the new year!

There has been a flurry of late activity from venues and schools around the region in the past fortnight. We’ve been busy building the jigsaw puzzle of available venues, days, times, and spaces (1 or 2 courts)!, so that we can create a meaningful and engaging program for all ages in 2026.
We can confirm that the following programs WILL be offered in 2026, bringing us up to our largest offering of activities for all ages since 2023!
We are cannot provide any further details just yet. The HV Committee is reviewing the full calendar, the 2026/27 Membership program, and the overall 2026 Budget at its Committee Workshop on Saturday 10th January.
The full calendar including days, times, registration processes will be available mid-January and will be emailed to all Members in the first instance before separate invitations are provided based on Member ages for the new year programs starting! |

In the New Year we’ll be recruiting for an important role with HV to learn more about our programs, to coordinate and also to deliver these for our community. We will be recruiting a permanent part-time Events Assistant (approx 10 hours per week) to assist us with our enquiries, event registrations, competition preparations, and more! The Position Description will be published on our website and socials in the New Year.
If you have an interest in events, competitions, member servicing, marketing and promoting volleyball in our region we look forward to hearing from you! |
On 12 December, President Dani, and Ops Manager Michelle, travelled to the Gold Coast to take ownership of secondhand competition flooring purchased from Volleyball Australia. The Gerflor Taraflex competition flooring has been in storage over the past 8 years, and brought out for installation as temporary major event floor covering over this time.
HV purchased this flooring as an asset for us to utilise in our pursuit of a commercial warehouse fitted out as our home base. It is in excellent condition, will provide an unrivalled playing experience, and we cannot wait to instal it here in the Hunter region for the benefit of the next generation of volleyballers!

As mentioned in our November Update, in the New Year we’ll continue our search with local commercial agents for suitable warm shell warehouses which would be suitable for HV’s home.
Major fundraising activities will be held to generate funds towards our required $100,000 lease entry and fitout costs, to get us playing asap. Our aspirations are to be housed before the end of 2026 and securely offering volleyball from 1 January 2027!
In January we’ll share details about ways you can help through tradesperson connections, social and fundraising initiatives, provide support for our Grant applications, and connect us with local organisations keen to partner with our emerging sport in the Hunter.
We will have a special invitation for local organisations to get involved in our programs, as sponsors of the Newcastle Redbacks, Newcastle Sharks, and Lake Macquarie Sunbirds teams competing in the Junior Volleyball League and senior Hunter Volleyball League (formerly PVL). These sponsorships support the four teams in each location (U18 boys and girls, and Adult men and women) and follow the most recent sponsorship secured with Club Maitland City, for the Maitland Panthers teams for the 2026 and 2027 seasons! |
Unlike bin chickens, Bin Coin$ are the best! When you throw out eligible recyclable containers, you're throwing away valuable Bin Coin$.
Grab a bin liner or small box this week and make it your collectable donation to HV for our ongoing fundraising program. * Download the Return & Earn App and nominate Hunter Volleyball as your charity to receive the value of your donated containers. * Visit 'Sell & Parker' bulk recyclers in Carrington to drop your bulk collection and quote 'Hunter Volleyball' at the cashier. * Bring to Broadmeadow on 13th or 20th January to kickstart our fundraising efforts in the New year!

In 2026 we return to Kotara Bunnings for two fundraising events, with the potential to generate up to $5,000 net sales from these two events.
- Saturday 8th March
- Saturday 28th June
During 2025 we had some fantastic helpers slinging the snags throughout the day, with some great tunes, sunshine, and happy customers loving our efficient service teams.
One day's service and work generates approximately $2,500, which can vary based on cost of products purchased to cook and sell. If you cannot help on the event days, you can still support as a Donor of $20 or $50 to help with our purchase of the fresh food, and increase our profit from the day.
