Season 2026 Has Arrived!

Published Mon 19 Jan 2026

Ready Set Spike!

Our skills development program delivers exactly what it says!  Learn the fundamentals through intensive skills work. Accelerate your game by learning offence & defence, transitioning, tactics and teamwork, and modified game play.  All of which will help to prepare you for competitions including the Junior Social Competitions and Junior Volleyball League!

Ready Set Spike! will be delivered at PCYC Lake Macquarie and Maitland in Term 1.  Details for Term 4 programs will be released later in the year.

Junior Competitions

For players aged 13-17 we've got more competitions on offer this year than ever before.  Putting your skills training into practice will now help it all make sense and some great competitive rallies await.  We have a mix of competitions throughout the year.

All of the skill development and competition information for Juniors is available on our website.

Mixed Recreational Competitions

For those adults new to the game, or returning after time away, get amongst the fun and new friendships in the Mixed Recreational Competitions.  No uniforms, no worries, it's a relaxed season where you can learn the game, learn the rules, make new friends and discover (or remember!) the thrill of the game with great playlists always on offer.  It's also becoming the place for teens to join their parents in spirited competition, bridging the generation gap with on-court competitive rivalry!

Mixed Recreational competitions will be run at Maitland High School on Wednesday nights (February to September) and then Hunter Sports High School on Thursday nights (from October)

Details about competitions are all available on our website.

Adult Graded Social Competitions

For the experienced players, there are options to compete in Graded competitions which are played at various venues.

The 2026 season kicks off in February at the Newcastle Basketball Stadium:

  • A, B & C Grade men's divisions will play between February - June.
  • A & B Grade women's divisions also play from February - June.

The Women's B Grade competition then heads to Maitland (July-September) before heading East for Spring and starting at Hunter Sports High School in our traditional Thursday night Spring competition from October-December.

From July - December, the Newcastle Basketball Stadium hosts our longer season of Men's A, B and C Grade competitions.

Junior League and Hunter League Competitions

The region's most experienced Juniors (18 and under) play their JVL Season through Winter at the University of Newcastle's NUSport courts as well as Hunter Sports High School. On top of the 2026 JVL Championship honours, players are vying for the Most Improved and Most Valuable Player awards.

The most experienced seniors contest the Hunter Volleyball League (formerly PVL) through Winter also, putting on show their big serves, big spikes and blocks, and of course some big game energy.  It's quite the spectacle so stay tuned for season dates and how to get involved (or spectate) this season's best matches.

You can download a copy of the 2026 Season Overview here.  Updates are regularly made on our website and the HV Calendar.

Membership with Hunter Volleyball for the 2026/27 Season is now open for new and returning players.  We hope to see you around the courts and enjoying this fabulous game for many years to come.
