2024 President's Report

Published Sun 29 Dec 2024

As the season wraps up, it’s time to reflect on an incredible year filled with growth, fun, and some amazing hockey. Starting with a mostly new committee, with the exception of our registrar Robyn Green and myself staying on as ‘acting president’, we set out on a journey full of enthusiasm and energy.

Hitting Off 2024
As the new committee found its feet, and were eager to refresh our approach to recruit players and promote the club.  Our focus was to recruit some younger players to support the longevity of the club, hire an experience coach, increase publicity and ensure everyone had a successful season.

With 30 registered players, we were able to field two teams, entering them into A grade and C grade competitions. It was a stretch for our A grade side as the quality of the competition is extremely high with the metro clubs using it as a development opportunity for their teams prior to entering metro.

Coaching and Training Triumphs
Unfortunately our hunt for an experience paid coach was not successful this year, in 2025 I would recommend the new committee starts advertising straight away to secure a coach before they are committed to other clubs. It is my firm belief that a senior hockey coach from outside the Hornsby Club will be strong drawcard for new talent.

Although we did not secure a new coach, I took on the challenge again as Team 1 and training coach, which was both demanding and rewarding. We were also lucky to entice Dallas back to support training and when available as a back up game day coach. Jane also stepped up to the pitch, offering her wisdom and organization for Team 2 as their game day coach. Tuesday night’s became a hub of activity with new skills, drills, and game strategy sessions that were definitely worth attending. The dedication from all players showed in their game, with strong development across both teams. A massive thank you to Jane and Dallas for their unwavering support and guidance!

Social Media Buzz and Community Spirit
A big shout-out to Maddie for her stellar work in leading our publicity efforts. Thanks to her creativity and consistency, our online presence was stronger than ever, sparking engagement and even bringing some old players back onto the field. She created some serious FOMO and generated a buzz and excitement for current & new players joining in 2025.

On the social side of things, as our funds were stable, the committee decided to focus on social rather than fundraising this year. Morgan and Maddie kept the fun rolling off the field. From organizing a family day at KHC,  which was well attended and we got to meet our extended hockey family. They also organised some fun & competitive Olympics themed evenings at training.  After many years at the club it was a joy to see our community spirit still holding strong.

On the Field: Success and Growth
It’s been a successful season on the field as well. Team 2, you were absolute superstars! Winning the minor premiership with only one loss and then taking out the 2024 C Grade Grand Final Championship in a nail-biting extra time and penalty shootout. Team 1’s journey was equally impressive.  With consistent development and determination the team reached the semi-finals, where they played fiercely against the undefeated top team. The growth of this team was incredible to watch, and I have no doubt they will grow in strength in the 2025 season.

Congratulations to our masters players Lisa Gregory, Lara Critchley, Michelle Walters, Selena Cheng, Kristina Turner for joining the NSB State Masters competition, with Michelle, Sel and Kris part of the successful O50 Div 1 Champions.

New Uniforms in the works and a Special Thanks to the committee

A special thank you to Robyn Green, our steadfast supporter and club registrar. Even though she no longer plays, Robyn has continued to dedicate her time and effort to our club. She’s also spearheading our new look project for the long awaiting new uniform.

My heartfelt gratitude to our 2024 committee members: Lucy (Vice President), Steph (Treasurer), Rosie (Secretary), Morgan (Social), Maddie (Social & Publicity), Robyn (Registrar), and Jane (RSL Delegate). It is only through the tireless efforts and willingness of you all to step up that we are able to keep our club alive and thriving. Your hard work, dedication and support is appreciated.

Thank you to Hornsby RSL for their continued sponsorship and support, we truly appreciate having such a fantastic organisation behind us.
Best wishes to the new committee for 2025, I am sure it will be an amazing season.
