Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12, delivered at recognised Tackers Clubs. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of a club to participate. All the equipment, including the boats, are provided. The Tackers Program is delivered in small groups by an Australia Sailing qualified Instructor and Assistant Instructors. Kids sail in pairs in small boats. It’s a great way to meet new friends and kids have the chance to sail with others in their group.

Attendees: min 6 to participants to proceed with course

Member: $ 332.00 + Aus Sailing & Merchant Fees

Non Member: $385.00 + Aus Sailing & Merchant Fees

To assist with the coordination of instructors and resources, early registration is encouraged, a LATE Fee of $20.00 applies if registration is completed after Sunday 6/12/2026.

Once you have completed the criteria of the Tackers 1 course you will receive your Tackers 1 certificate from Australian Sailing via email.

Lastly is Tackers course 3. Learn to Sail Fast

**Please note this will be a combined T1, T2, T3 week, if your child is showing faster progression we may provide a higher certificate at the end of the course.

Course Overview
This course aims to build on skills learned in Tackers 2 and focuses on advanced sailing skills through games and adventures on the water. 

Course Prerequisites

• Water confident
• 7-12 years-old
• Skills, knowledge and experience gained in Tackers 2

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have completed Tackers 2.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 3 course, the participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate the correct method and understand the theory of roll tacking and gybing
• Stopping the boat in a confined areas for a period of time
• Sail backwards
• Understand the theory behind gybing and can demonstrate the action downwind
• Show a sound knowledge of the five essentials:
  • Centreboard position
  • Boat trim
  • Boat balance
  • Course made good
  • Sail trim
• Start and finish races on a triangle and trapezoid course
• Always use tactical mark roundings in races

You will gain your Tackers 3 completion certificate.
