Gordon Matthews, who recently passed away, contributed hugely to the sport of croquet.  He was also a dedicated club member and club patron who felt strongly that the players of the three croquet codes - Association, Ricochet and Golf Croquet, should have an opportunity to mix and play together sometimes.  With this in view he inaugurated the Patron's Shield, an annual club competition intended to involve players from all three codes by playing two-shot, a modified game which would challenge all players.  This year it was decided to honour Gordon by renaming the competition the Gordon Matthews Memorial Shield.  This year's event will be on Saturday 22nd August and all members are encouraged to participate.
