NSHC Teams League - PILOT staring this week.
Overview
The NSHPC Social Teams League is a week-by-week social competition for members of the Northern Suburbs Hobart Pickleball Club. Players can sign up (in OpenSports) only for the weeks they want to play, and teams will be created each week based on those registrations.
Pilot duration
The pilot league will run on Wednesday nights at the Moonah Sports Centre for four weeks.Start time will be 6.15pm and finishing no later than 8pm.
Eligibility and values
This event is currently open only to members of the Northern Suburbs Hobart Pickleball Club. Because court space is limited, we are not yet able to offer places to members of other clubs. We hope to open future spots to other club members once more courts become available.
Our values
The NSHPC Teams League is guided by Pickleball Australia’s Spirit of Pickleball values:
· Sportsmanship
· Passion
· Inclusion
· Respect
· Integrity
· Trailblazing
Above all, this is a social and recreational playing group focused on supporting one another and enjoying the game.
Weekly sign-up and team formation
Teams are created fresh each week rather than staying the same across the full pilot. This approach reduces the administrative workload for volunteers, especially when managing weekly changes and substitutions.
When teams are published
A link to the team lists and match schedule will be shared in the OpenSport chat no later than 5.00 pm on the day of the league. If there are any late cancellations, team line-ups may still change before play begins.
How teams are organised
Once registrations in OpenSport are confirmed, player names are entered into a computer program that uses a snake draft algorithm to create teams. The program considers DUPR and self-ratings to help make the teams as even as possible.
Each player will also be allocated a line for the evening.
Play format and results
The league uses a switching doubles format, so players will partner with each person on their team during the evening. Each team will play against one opposing team for the night, and each match-up will have the same opposing line players — for example, line 1 and 2 from the red team will play line 1 and 2 from the blue team and so on.
Games will be rally scoring with each game to 15, win by 1 or 15 minutes (whichever happens first)Players who are not on the court will be responsible for keeping track of time.
Results and score entry
Results will be available through the same link shared earlier in the day in the event chat. We are also working towards enabling players to enter scores on the night.
DUPR entry
Because this is a pilot social league, scores will not be entered into DUPR.
Feedback
As this is a trial, we welcome all feedback and suggestions. Please see Mel or Kerri on the night or contact us via chat.
