In a moment that will be remembered as one of the proudest in the association’s history, GDHA has produced three senior international debutants in the space of a single Pro League window!

Ajax junior talent Makayla Jones earned her first cap for the Hockeyroos against Ireland in Block 1 of theFIH Pro League in Hobart. Fireflys’ Dylan Downey followed with his debut for the Kookaburras against India in Block 2, before former Drifters standout Georgie Smithers completed the remarkable trio when she represented the Hockeyroos against China in Block 2.

For an association to have one player reach senior international level is special. To have three achieve that honour in the span of 2 weels is exceptional and speaks volumes about not only the quality and character of these three athletes but the strength of the support behind them!

While they began their journeys in different club colours, Ajax, Fireflys and Drifters, their journeys reflect a shared foundation built in the same Goulburn Hockey community. These three are a testament to respective clubs and show that no matter where a player starts within GDHA, the opportunity to grow, develop and succeed at the highest level is always within reach

All three have earned their place through consistent performances on the national stage, Makayla and Dylan with the NSW Pride, and Georgie with the Canberra Chill, repeatedly proving themselves against Australia’s best before stepping into the international arena.

For GDHA, this achievement represents the collective effort of an entire community. It reflects years of commitment from the players themselves but also local clubs, the dedication of coaches and volunteers, and the unwavering support of their families who ensure their dream was a possibility.

Producing three senior internationals in one season is a rare accomplishment and almost unheard of for a small regional association. These players stand as a powerful example to every young player coming through the GDHA ranks currently that the highest level is within reach.
