Use lights when rowing in the dark!

Published Fri 24 May 2019

Winter is coming and the only thing that can save you from the White Walkers is a fire stick on your bow and stern!

Lighting on boats is a very serious issue, not only for the rowers in the boat but also for the ferry drivers and drivers of other craft that use the Bay.  It's unfair to expect them to be able to see you in your little boat if you haven't got bright lights on, and we all know who will come off second-best if they can't see you.

A general guide is if the street lights are on, you need lights on your boat!  So if you plan to row before 6.30am or after 5.00pm, please purchase your own lights, and put at least 2 lights on your boat, one at each end.  You can buy them online or at Whitworths stores.  Tie them on or secure them in some way to the boat, even if they have suction caps, or they could be a short-lived purchase.  And your lights need to be bright - if they are not, buy new batteries for them.

In case you forget to bring your own, there are some lights in the cabinet drawers in the downstairs bathroom.  If you use them, return them or your name will be added to Arya's list...
