Down The Shed - SHE”S BUSY!

Image

It’s fantastic that we have so many active members taking to the water at the moment. However it isn’t so great when everyone decides to row & come off the water at the same time. This seems to be what's happening, particularly on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

To avoid this: -

  • Please when you book a boat can you take a moment to also observe how many other boats are also booked at the same time. Ask the question - “Can you get your crew to come 15 minutes earlier, or 15 later to help try and reduce the congestion?”
  • When you are coming off the water & see that there are numerous boats at the pontoon or being washed in the shed, go & do another lap/half lap rather than joining the queue & adding to the congestion.
  • Alternatively, I know it's not possible for us all, but in the summer why not go for an afternoon row & avoid the morning rush completely?
  • Get boats off the water first . Come back later for oars. Once you are the shed riggers off first to avoid hitting other boats.

When the pontoon gets busy with boats being lifted over each other there is a higher risk of damage to boats & to members. So let’s all try & be aware of one another & adhere to the above suggestions to ease our busy mornings.

Thanks all.

Wrap Up - Reindeer & Sprint Championships - SIRC Dec 7th & 8th

The torrential rain on Saturday certainly didn’t dampen our competitors' spirits as we saw some great rowing & fun times at this year’s Reindeer’s regatta out at SIRC.  There was also some karaoke which I will spare you from…..

You can see the full GRC results here.  Sharing some highlights from our juniors below:

Parry Mouhtaris 2nd in the Para Single

Charlotte Rogers 1st in the Novice Single

William Tarrant 1st & Jonathan Nolan 2nd in the Novice Single Zoe

Zoe Leesha & Ingse Dive 1st in the Under 16 Double Scull

Not forgetting Jackie Harris who won best dressed with her single ‘Dasher’.

On Sunday the rain stayed away for the Sprint Championships as our competitors competed the 500m course. Blink & you easily missed it!

Find full results here. See some happy snaps below of the weekend. Well done to all competitors and volunteers.

What In The Name is This?

Each week I will be showcasing a strange & interesting item that I have found down the club & I will be inviting you all to guess what it is & its use.

Last week we kicked off with…….

Image

This is a persuader - This rather mediaeval looking device is used to adjust or more correctly persuade a gate pin to bend slightly so adjusting the angle of a gate. I have to congratulate a number of you as there were quite a few correct answers! Please find below the image for this week…

What is this silver item & what do we use it for? The picture above is the back & front of the object.

Answer to be shared in next week's newsletter. Bet you can't wait!

That’s all folks! - see you all next week.
