COVID-19 Update 20 March 2020 - New Restrictions

Published Fri 20 Mar 2020

We have updated the club’s precautionary measures in response to the COVID-19 community health threat.

You may have seen the direction from Rowing NSW to registered rowers (provided below).

In line with their recommendations, and considering our circumstances, we request all members to take the following precautions until further notice.

GRC rules to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community:

  • If you have flu-like symptoms, stay away from the sheds
  • If at the sheds:
    • follow general hygiene recommendations (repeated below in Rowing NSW’s note)
    • Row ONLY in single sculls, pairs or doubles (NO FOURS, QUADs or EIGHTs)
    • Wash hands on arrival and departure from the sheds
    • Wash oar handles before and after use.  Don’t carry each other’s oars.
    • Wash inside the boat thoroughly after use
    • No showers at club premises.  Try to change away from the club
    • When off the water, attempt to keep a distance of 1.5 metres between yourself and other people
    • In the gym (i.e. upstairs), maximum 4 people at one time.  Make sure you wipe ergos and equipment before and after use using the wipes provided
    • Do not leave clothes, towels, shoes or other personal items at the shed. Take it home with you or it will be discarded.

Some of these may seem a bit of an inconvenience.  They are consistent with Rowing NSW’s recommendations and they take into account that our club house is a small space, it is situated in close proximity to the school and it is highly visible to passers-by.  We have members who are health care workers, teachers and casual employees so any contribution we can make to protect them from even the standard flu let alone COVID is a plus for them and a plus for the community.

We rely on all members to stick to the measures above and remind any other members who forget to do so.
