Event information

The VHF Marine Radio Course is a self-paced e-learning course that takes approximately 4 hours to complete. You can study whenever it suits you and, once enrolled, you'll have lifetime access to the course.
The course teaches the practical knowledge required to confidently operate a marine VHF radio, including distress, urgency and safety communications, Digital Selective Calling (DSC), AIS, radio procedures and emergency communications.
Assessment
The entire course and assessment process is completed 100% online.
Following enrolment, you'll receive immediate access to the course. Your one-on-one virtual assessment is then booked online at a time that suits you.
The assessment includes:
• A 25-question online multiple-choice assessment.
• A practical assessment conducted via video call with an accredited Above & Beyond Boating assessor, covering radio controls, radio checks, routine communications, distress procedures and the practical application of VHF radio operation.
Your SROCP Certificate
Upon successful completion of the assessment, the Office of Maritime Communications (OMC), part of the Australian Maritime College (AMC), issues your Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP).
The SROCP is recognised by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and internationally, is valid for life, and enables you to apply for an Australian Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) for your vessel.
