Australian Sailing's Tackers 2 – Tricks & Techniques builds on the skills learned in Tackers 1 and helps young sailors become more confident and independent on the water.

Tackers 2 is specifically designed to continue the sailing journey started in Tackers 1 – Having Fun. Participants should be aged 7–12, confident around the water, and have completed Tackers 1 or have equivalent sailing skills and experience.

By the end of Tackers 2, participants who achieve the required competencies will be able to:

• Get out of irons independently
• Gybe the boat safely
• Correctly use the tiller extension
• Sail a triangular course, including:
  • Upwind – sailing close-hauled and tacking through the no-go zone
  • Downwind – sailing with the centreboard raised appropriately
  • Reaching – using the correct sail position
• Complete controlled 360° and 720° turns

All boats, lifejackets and required safety equipment are provided.

Course Schedule

To provide the best possible experience, the course is scheduled across an 8-week period from 11 October to 29 November and will be conducted on the first four Sundays with suitable weather conditions during that period.

Sundays affected by unsuitable or unsafe weather will simply be skipped, with the course continuing on the next suitable Sunday.

Course Overview

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 2 course, the participants will be able to:

• Get out of irons on their own
• Safely gybe the boat
• Correctly use the tiller extension
• Sailing around a triangle course, including:
  • Upwind - on a close hauled course tacking through the 'no go zone'
  • Downwind - with centreboard up
  • Reaching - correct sail position
• Demonstrate a 360 and 720-degree turn

You will gain your Tackers 2 completion certificate.
