Ridge and Ruts - November 2025 edition
  CEO update

The Four Wheel Drive Victoria 50th Anniversary Event, held from 17 to 19 October, was a huge success at Merrijig. A special thank you to those who put it all together, including some volunteers, as well as to the clubs and members who attended and helped make the celebration possible. We appreciated ARB for being the major sponsor of the event, Mansfield Shire Council for being the host partner and all the other partners, vendors and suppliers too.

FWDV will be putting together a special feature Summer Trackwatch edition with a focus on the 50th, history, volunteering and more.

The clubs and members continue to do outstanding volunteer work out in the community, especially around track clearing projects, wildlife working bees, hut rebuilding, land managers assistance and more. The work does not go unnoticed, and by submitting your project post-information, it enables it to be pushed up to the government and stakeholders. Submit here

Four Wheel Drive Victoria recently secured multi-year government funding for four years. $100k per year, equaling to $400k, which ensures special projects can be planned out each year and up until FY 2029. Next steps, KPIs and consulting will occur in early 2026 on this.

The Victorian Government has released the Eminent Panel for Community Engagement and the Great Outdoors Taskforce final reports and has provided a response to their recommendations. The Victorian Government is investing $30 million in its initial response to the Recommendations through 4 key actions

  1. Protecting our environment
  2. Resetting the management framework for state forests
  3. Working together for healthy forests
  4. Driving recreation and tourism investments in regional economies.

You can find the Government’s Response here.

The Regional Reps meeting is being held on 8-9 November in Thornton and Murrindindi Shire. Reps from all over Victoria and Parks Victoria, and DEECA will be present. Working through key strategies, track access, and prioritising outcomes to keep moving forward collaboratively for 4WDing.

The Mount Dissappointment Clean-up-the-Bush event is on 15 November, with a positive response for assistance from a range of clubs, community groups and the general public.

In December, the FWDV team and the board will review the first year of the 2025-2027 strategic plan to ensure actions were delivered for 2025 and outcomes are clear for 2026.

The FWDV rules review is also in the consultation phase, with clubs and committees encouraged to review and provide their feedback by 28 February here

FWDV Celebrates 50 Years at Merrijig

From November 17th to 19th, Four Wheel Drive Victoria marked a major milestone, its 50th Anniversary - with a weekend of celebration at McCormack Park, Merrijig. Members, families, and friends came together to camp, connect, and commemorate five decades of four-wheel driving adventures and community spirit.

The festivities kicked off Friday evening with a horse show, setting the tone for a relaxed and fun-filled weekend. Saturday brought entertainment for all ages, including live music, a captivating wildlife show, and face painting that kept the kids smiling.

A huge thank you goes out to our partners and sponsors, whose generous support made the event even more exciting with a wide array of raffle prizes that had everyone buzzing. Local beveridge and food trucks ensured no one went hungry or thirsty, serving up delicious fare throughout the weekend.

We’re incredibly grateful to our volunteers and to everyone who attended, your enthusiasm and support made this celebration a true success. Here's to the next 50 years of adventure, camaraderie, and responsible four-wheel driving!
