CEO Update - Craig Ryan

On 9 October the Four Wheel Drive President and I had a meeting with the Minister Environment, Minister Tourism, Minister Outdoor Recreation and his advisors, to inform him of the benefits that 4WDIng contributes to the state. Such as economic contribution, volunteering, partnership with other agencies, and more, to continue to advocate for track network access and sustainability.

Also on 23 October, we were invited to a collaborative workshop with the 'Great Outdoors Taskforce, including other Victorian and Australian recreation bodies. To discuss 'Shaping the Future of Victorian Forests', including what challenges 4WDing may face, new ideas, and next steps as a collective.

Thank you to the clubs and volunteers on the recent track clearing days, your contribution and effort are highly valued, and Parks Victoria and other agency partnerships appreciate the support members and clubs offer for these special projects.

The association has now rolled out Revolutionise Sport, the online cloud-based management platform which will include the new 'find a club' feature, and 4WDV is in the onboarding phase of the new student management system for all 4WDV RTO courses. This moves the 4x4 industry to a more modernized and digital space for the future.

4WDV has now partnered with Carbon Offroad Australia offering discounts to members on products, and we will announce other partnerships and increased member benefits over the coming weeks too.

The consulting with members phase for the new three-year strategic plan will commence soon.

Track clearing

Many clubs have undertaken amazing efforts with track clearing during the month of October 2024.  We will look forward to presenting some of their stories in the next Trackwatch magazine, but here's a few of the events that took place.

Three clubs got together for track clearing in Far East Gippsland, being the Pajero 4wd Club of Victoria, Range Rover Club of Victoria and Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria and worked alongside  Parks Victoria.  Areas covered included Errinundra National Park, Snowy River National Park and Alpine National Park.

Out to the west, Bellarine 4x4 Club, Geelong Four Wheel Drive Club, Otway Four Wheel Drive Club and Warrnambool 4wd Club worked with Parks Victoria and DEECA.  Areas covered around Lorne, Angelsea, Barwon, Gellibrand and Colac.

Wangaratta Four Wheel Drive Club and Mansfield Alpine Four Wheel Drive Club joined forces to work with Parks Victoria in their areas.

Just Mates 4x4 Club worked around the Gembrook area.

A huge thank you to these clubs along with other clubs who undertook track clearing in recent times.

Proficiency Course in November 2024
Four Wheel Drive Victoria has over thirty years of driver training experience. Our proficiency 4wding course is our most popular course and is designed to take a driver of any skill to a 4wder who can comfortably tackle a large range of offroad terrain, safely traverse up and down steep hills, including how to safely stop and start on hills and safely drive through water crossings. Four Wheel Drive Victoria follow and train to the motto of ‘Driving in a Sustainable Environment’, making sure to teach techniques to help preserve and look after the environment we all love.
This is a non-accredited course. This means that you still receive a high level of training, but you are not assessed.
The course covers the following topics:
* Basic understanding of four wheel drive vehicles and their technical aspects
* Four wheel driving techniques
* Driving in a range of terrain
* Water crossings

Instructors are fully trained and experienced in all popular four wheel drive makes and models as well as newer electronic vehicle technologies.
Candidates who are assessed competent in the unit requirements will be award a Certificate of Participation.

Similar to volunteer campground host programs in other states, the NT volunteer campground host program is a great opportunity for people to experience the wide open spaces of NT Parks, spending time in remote and beautiful parts of Australia while also getting to know the rangers and becoming part of the team who manage these incredible landscapes.
