Eligibility
This competition is for Year 9 to Year 13 students who are enrolled in high school, correspondence school or are home schooled. Participants must be current affliated members of Fencing New Zealand (ie: have paid their membership fee for the 2025 year).

* If there are not enough competitors for separate boys and girls events, a mixed gender competition will be held. Competitors will be notified by email of this change once entries have closed. The organisers may change the timetable depending on entries.
Format:
Individual Events
First Round: poules with bouts to 5 hits.
Second Round: Direct Elimination to 15 hits.
Separate events will be held for Boys and Girls as long as there are 4+ competitors in each gender. Encourage your school mates to come to this competition too.
Team Entries
Team Entry fee is $100 per team per weapon. Team entry fees will be invoiced to the region.
Each region may enter up to two school teams per weapon and gender.
Places not filled will not be reallocated.

Team entries must be submitted by each Regional President via email by 24th August 2025, 10pm.

Medals/Trophies:
Medals will be awarded for first, second, third/ third equal depending on numbers.
Entries Close:
24th August 2025, 10pm for individual and team entries.
Entry Fee:
$80 per weapon.
Entry fees are to be paid at time of entry. No cash payment will be received on the day of competition.
Gear Requirements:
Minimum Equipment Standards for FeNZ Competitions:
Jacket : CEN1 (350N) , Plastron: CEN2 (800N) , Breeches: CEN1 (350N), Mask: CEN1 (350N bib), Glove (Sabre Only): CEN2 (800N)
Another option is an 800N (CEN2) Jacket and a 350N (CEN1) Plastron.
Chest Protectors:
For all weapons a chest protector (of rigid material) is compulsory for women and optional for men and is to be worn beneath the plastron. From 1st July 2025 Rule m.25.4.c will be implemented at FeNZ National Competitions – this rule affects Foil only.
Clothing:
It will be expected that where a fencer can use equipment of a higher standard – e.g. 800N or breeches rather than long trackpants, then they will do so.
Weapons:
FIE Foil and Epee blades / S2000 Sabre blades (or later) also required for all tournaments except those with size 3 blades or smaller – in line with FIE requirements. Maraging Sabre Blades are not required to be used at FeNZ National Competitions.
Leon Paul SR-71 Epee blades dated 08-2012 to 06-2015, and Leon Paul V Epee blades 08-2012 to 06-2015
without serial numbers - are currently banned by Fencing NZ

Rule Changes:
Non-Combativity: FIE rule t.124 was revised in 2018 and 2022. The current version will be applied at this competition.
Fencer Salute: FIE rules t.122 and t.1 were revised in October 2023 for the 2023/2024 season and will be applied at this competition.
Drug Free Sport:
By participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the potential of being selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping testing if required. Photography and Publication
Photography is permitted at all Fencing MidSouth competitions, as the competition venue is a public place. However, photography is strictly prohibited in non-public areas such as changing rooms and toilets. Participants are advised to refrain from changing in public spaces, as doing so forfeits their right to privacy. Fencing MidSouth reserves the right to publish photos taken at the competition on social media, the internet, and printed media, including images of spectators and officials.
