2018 Mid-South U15 & U17 (Cadet) Championships
The U15 competition is open to all fencers who were under 15 years old on 1st January 2018 ie: born in 2003 or later including 1st January 2003. This competition is suitable for fencers 11+ years old who have been fencing for at least two years.
The U17/ Cadet competition is open to all fencers who were under 17 years old on 1st January 2018 ie: born in 2001 or later including 1st January 2001. This competition is suitable for secondary school students.
Participants must be members of Fencing New Zealand for 2017 or 2018 fencing year. (ie: have paid their membership fee for the year). Fencing New Zealand's 2017 membership is valid until 31st March 2018. If you are not yet a member you can become one by clicking on the link below...
Fencing New Zealand Membership
Competition Format: First Round: Poules with bouts to five hits. Second Round: Direct elimination to 15 hits. B finals will be fenced for weapons with 8+ competitors
All weapons will be mixed gender unless there are 6+ competitors in both genders competitors ie: 6 boys and 6 girls.
Epee and Sabre will also be run as mixed age ie: U15 & U17 for poules. Direct Elimination will be in age group if there are minimum of 4 fencers at each age level.
Timetable:
Saturday 17th March
8:30am to 8:45am U15 Foil Registration
9am U15 Foil Competition Starts
1pm to 1:15pm U15 & U17 Epee & Sabre Registration
2pm U15 & U17 Epee & Sabre Competition Starts*
* Epee and Sabre will start after all fencers who are also competing in a previous event have been eliminated.
PLEASE NOTE: There must be 4+ competitors for an event to be run

9am to 9:15am U17 Foil Registration
9:30am U17 Foil Competition Starts
Entry Fees: $25 per weapon per age group.
Entries close at 5pm Wednesday 14 March 2018. Late entries will be accepted at the discretion of the organiser.

Gear Requirements:
Clothing: Minimum CE350N Jacket, CE350N Plastron, CE350N Fencing Breeches with long fencing socks or tracksuit pants. Fencing shoes or sports shoes. CE350N Mask Bib. Gloves-in good condition and cover half the forearm. Gloves must have no holes for body wires. Chest Protectors are compulsory for Girls.
Lame Bibs for Foil Masks not compulsory. If you intend to fence in a national competition it is recommended that you fence with your lame bib on.
Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary Strap/Bar. All masks must be in good condition.
Weapons: Standard (non FIE) blades for foil and epee, S2000 or above for Sabre blade
Leon Paul - All SR71 Epee Blades (2013-2015) are banned.

Weapons Check: Weapons will be checked with weights and gauges on the piste.
Canteen: Food and drink will be available for purchase at the venue during the tournament.
