2021-2022 Season Launch Event, 9 October 2021, Nissan Arena

Event Overview

The QUT High School Esports Program has been operating since 2018 and has hosted over 20 high schools from across South East Queensland. In preparation for our 2022 High School league, QUT is hosting a league launch event which is where high schools will line up to compete in 3 game disciplines (Rocket League, Overwatch and League of Legends). The results of the day will assist in determining each school’s seeding for the 2022 high school league operated by QUT Esports staff and students. 

Schools will compete for a place in either the Tiger (Performance) and Super (Development) leagues at the High School Season Commencement Event held on October 9th at the Nissan Arena Stadium.

School Entry Information

Eligible Schools                                                               All South East Queensland based schools are eligible to contest this event either as a standalone, or as part of the 2022 QUT High School League
Maximum participants per school 20 students per team*  Note - Nissan event is Howling Abyss 3v3 
Maximum number of schools  32
Event Date & Times 9th October, 9:00am - 5:00pm

All schools must pre-register prior to this event

Competition Format - Nissan Arena Event

Team Activities                                                                   

Students will compete in swiss system tournament 

  • League of Legends (3 v 3 Students) 1 team per school    

          Howling Abyss  3 v 3  

Students will also have the opportunity to learn and assist with:

  • Production
  • Casting 
  • Event Operations 
Scoring Schools will be seeded based on progressive points throughout the day. 
Prizes Winning schools will receive a medallion and Championships T-shirt

$0 as part of High Schools Esport League Program*

QUT Sport will accepting payment plans on request

Crowd Participation on the day includes - cosplay judging at midday.

*Schools  will be provided 20 Tickets for allocated seating (Nissan Arena COVID Safe Plan) however additional tickets are available on request for additional students. 


Following on from this major event, all school teams will be pre-registered to take part in the 2022 QUT High School Esport League.

The following information outlines inclusions and format for the 2022 season

Team Activities                                                                   

Students will be broken into teams and will have the opportunity to compete in a friendly competition against other schools across 3 game disciplines:

  • League of Legends (5 Students)
  • Overwatch (6 Players)
  • Rocket League (3 Players)

Students will also have the opportunity to learn and assist with:

  • Production
  • Casting 
  • Event Operations 
Scoring Schools will be seeded based on progressive points throughout the day. 
Prizes Winning schools will receive a medallion and Championships T-shirt

$1000 entry per school (*includes entry into 2022 QUT High School Esport League events) 

QUT Sport will accepting payment plans on request

Event Frequency                                                             

Events occur once per term and are held on Saturday's in the QUT Esports arena (Gardens Point Campus), or online, in the event of a future lockdown.

Inclusions
  • 2022 Season package will be provided to all schools following successful registration for the competition. Package inclusions:
    • Esports Lanyard with Online Safety Card for each participant per term
    • 20 x Student League T-Shirts
    • 4 x Large Esports Arena Posters
  • Access to QUT Esports arena for all events (at no additional charge) 
  • Mentorship and coaching within the QUT Esports program 
  • Access to the QUT Tigers Academy Program support program, which includes: 
    • 2 x Parent online safety and esports sessions held during the year

    • Scrim organisation / roster
    • A Coaching session from QUT Esports Professionals (QUT Tigers Academy - Semi-professional team)
    • Esport Information Packs – Including QUT Esport research publications (i.e. Strength & Conditioning, Psychology, Nutrition)
    • Access to the QUT Esport Arena where schools can train and compete using latest technology, Alienware R12 i9 3090 64GB machines
Event Format
  • All students receive an online safety briefing by industry experts
  • Students participate in student led online safety and wellbeing segments during the event
  • Students will produce an online safety segment for their school, and;
  • Students will be immersed in latest gaming, broadcasting and streaming practices, including mentorship within:
    • Broadcasting roles
    • Sports commentary
    • Officiating competitions
    • Live Stream moderation

COVID SAFE PROGRAM - Competition days will be delayed and/or played online with altered schedule in the event of COVID lockdown and subject to Nissan Arena COVID safe plan

CHILD SAFE PROGRAM - QUT Sport operates under the QUT Child and Youth Risk Management Strategy
