Newcastle Grammar Regatta – 1/11/2025
The regatta season usually starts in mid-September but this season, the racing squad’s debut was delayed. A couple of Endeavour members did venture out earlier with Jacob Cobley competing over 13 kilometres on the Hawkesbury and 5 km on the Nepean, while Lindy Nisbett tackled 16 km on the Manning for a win in the Womens Masters Single event and 7 km on the Shoalhaven in a mixed quad. Peter Bowman and Tim Blomfield tried to join the party by entering the 500 metre Lismore regatta but Peter managed to fall off a ladder and they had to cancel. The full squad finally got it together for the Newcastle Grammar regatta at the beginning of November.
Regatta day started off overcast with rain threatening, but the water was calm with races running to time until 2.00pm when the weather backed up its threats with thunder and several flashes of lightning. The regatta officials were obliged to suspend the regatta with racing paused for 50 minutes. With no more lightning seen, the delayed regatta recommenced and all events were completed.
Endeavour had 21 starts for 6 wins, 5 seconds and 4 thirds. Rosie Furness stood out with wins in each of her 3 starts.

CDRA Sprint Championships – 10/11/2024
It was windy when we arrived at Carrington, with the wind speed predicted to increase. We decided against putting up the marquee as it would probably get blown away before the regatta was over. This proved to be a wise decision as the intensity of the wind just kept going up and up. The competitors were able to handle the conditions before mid-day, with only 8 withdrawals from the first 75 races. But after the lunch break, things became too tough for many of the rowers, resulting in 37 withdrawals from the last 33 races, 5 of those being from Endeavour.
From 13 starts, Endeavour had 4 wins, 1 second and 4 thirds. Six of our members took home medals: Jacob in a single, Prentice in a pair, Katrina in a double and the crew of Lindy, Chris, Rosie and Di in a quad. The pair, double and quad were all championship events.
Rosie also competed in the Linwood Throsby Gift relay as a member of the Newcastle University Composite squad, rowing with her son Ryan in the quad. University earned their way into the final with a convincing win in the heat. The final saw the closest and most exciting finish in recent years with University leading early, to be challenged by Newcastle in the closing stages. Newcastle won by just 0.39 seconds.

HVGS and NUBC Regattas – 15&16/11/2025
The weather was well behaved on Saturday with clear blue sky and perfect rowing conditions up until lunch. A light breeze came up for the afternoon’s racing but it was not enough to upset the competitors. Sunday was different; overcast with a breeze that made racing challenging.
From 35 starts, Endeavour had 6 wins, 12 seconds and 10 thirds. Katrina, Diana, Marg and Fiona had a great weekend with 3 wins each; 2 together in a quad and 1 split into doubles. Rosie’s win in a mixed quad was a family affair with the crew made up of her and her doubles partner Jo from Manning together with their sons.
