Tackers 1 – Tricks & Techniques (Ages 7–12)
The course cost is $390 per sailor and includes 24 hours of tuition, full personal insurance cover issued by Australian Sailing.
In the past, our Tackers courses were run over 5 weeks. We are now running them over 8 weeks, which will allow more time on the water and provide sailors with greater opportunity to develop their skills.
Where to meet
- On arrival, Attendees are to meet at the Bill Glasson Training Centre located on the riverside on the lower level of the Clubhouse.
What To Bring:
- Water bottle
- Hat* & sunscreen
- Shoes (water shoes, wetsuit booties, old sneakers)
- Wetsuit, or shorts & warmer top.
- Towel
- Change of clothes

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - AUSTRALIAN SAILING NUMBER
Once you begin registration for this course, you will be prompted to obtain an Australian Sailing Number or use your Current One. There are links to sign up for an Australian Sailing Number or Find your Existing Number. Each child requires their own Australian Sailing Number.
This is free and provides Australian Sailing personal Insurance at no cost.
PLEASE ENSURE REGISTRATION IS UNDER THE CHILD'S NAME AND AUSTRALIAN SAILING NUMBER, NOT THE PARENT/GUARDIAN.

Course Overview
This course aims to provide children aged 7-12 with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing.

- 7-12 years-old
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.
Course Outcome
By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:
- Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
- Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
- Tack (push turn)
- Gybe (pull turn)
- Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
- Sail with tiller extension
- Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat
You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
