Australian Sailing - Tackers: Tackers 2 - Tricks & Techniques

Tackers 2 – Tricks & Techniques (Ages 7–12)

This course aims to build on the fun participants had in Tackers 1, to progress their sailing skills. Tackers 2 builds on the fun and confidence developed in Tackers 1, helping children expand their sailing skills and spend more time on the water developing independence.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive their Tackers 2 Completion Certificate.
 

The course cost is $390 per sailor and includes 24 hours of tuition, full personal insurance cover issued by Australian Sailing.

In the past, our Tackers courses were run over 5 weeks. We are now running them over 8 weeks, which will allow more time on the water and provide sailors with greater opportunity to develop their skills.

Where to meet 

  • On arrival, Attendees are to meet at the Bill Glasson Training Centre located on the riverside on the lower level of the Clubhouse.

What To Bring: 

  • Water bottle
  • Hat* & sunscreen
  • Shoes (water shoes, wetsuit booties, old sneakers) 
  • Wetsuit, or shorts & warmer top.
  • Towel
  • Change of clothes

IMPORTANT INFORMATION - AUSTRALIAN SAILING NUMBER

Once you begin registration for this course, you will be prompted to obtain an Australian Sailing Number or use your Current One. There are links to sign up for an Australian Sailing Number or Find your Existing Number. Each child requires their own Australian Sailing Number.

This is free and provides Australian Sailing personal Insurance at no cost.

PLEASE ENSURE REGISTRATION IS UNDER THE CHILD'S NAME AND AUSTRALIAN SAILING NUMBER, NOT THE PARENT/GUARDIAN.

Course Overview
This course aims to build on the fun participants had in Tackers 1, to progress their sailing skills. 

Course Prerequisites

  • Water confident
  • 7-12 years-old
  • Skills, knowledge and experience gained in Tackers 1.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who have completed Tackers 1.

Course Outcome

By the end of the Tackers 2 course, the participants will be able to:

  • Get out of irons on their own
  • Safely gybe the boat
  • Correctly use the tiller extension
  • Sailing around a triangle course, including:
    • Upwind - on a close hauled course tacking through the 'no go zone'
    • Downwind - with centreboard up
    • Reaching - correct sail position
  • Demonstrate a 360 and 720-degree turn

You will gain your Tackers 2 completion certificate.
