Australian Sailing - Tackers: Tackers 1 - Having Fun

For those completely new or have just started sailing we are offering a 6 week learn to sail “Tackers 1” course, 4:30pm to 7:30pm on Fridays 2nd Feb-7th March. This is a fun-focused introduction to sailing, with all the basics covered! Tackers 1 sessions focus on building water confidence and teaching sailors how to rig, tack and sail across the wind.
Please choose this course if your child has not sailed before or has completed a short sailing intro course.
Minimum age?
Kids must be 7 years or older to participate in this course.
What to bring?
All sailors are required to wear a lifejacket, hat, sunscreen and shoes(old runners, wetsuits boots, crocs etc, NOT thongs) during the coaching sessions. Please BYO life jacket(these can be purchased from outdoor stores such as Anaconda, Sport Phillip Marine and BCF) - DBYC has a limited supply which can be borrowed if requested. Wetsuits are recommended, as the water is quite cold. Please bring a full water bottle, snack, towel and a change of clothes each day.
Course Overview This course aims to provide children aged 7-12 with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing.

Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.
Course Outcome
By the end of the Tackers 1 course, the participants will be able to:
Steer with tiller extension under towing paddling power
Tie a figure 8 knot, round twice and two half hitches
Tack (push turn)
Gybe (pull turn)
Reach around a figure of 8 course using both tacking and gybing
Sail with tiller extension
Sail upwind and downwind by following the safety boat
You will gain your Tackers 1 completion certificate.
