YSF PERFORMANCE SQUAD
The CYCSA Performance Squad is aimed at sailors who graduate from the Development Squad and who are committed to performing at a high level. The Performance Squad focuses on high-level coaching and race tactics with the goals of competing at national and international events. The program provides excellent opportunities to continue refining keelboat racing skills to compete at the highest levels.
Performance Squad Objectives
- Provide coaching, theory, and training for sailors to refine their sailing skills for keelboats.
- Introduce fitness and nutrition concepts.
- Fine tune fleet racing skills using Elliott 7’s.
- Develop a higher level of boat handling skills using both asymmetric and symmetric spinnakers.
- Develop deeper knowledge and understanding of Racing Rules of Sailing.
- Refine tactics used in both fleet racing and match racing.
- Develop and build upon match racing knowledge.
- Gain valuable teamwork experience.

Day 1 Training Program – Thursday (1000 - 1600)
- Sail prep including rigging boats ready to race with symmetrical and asymmetrical kites
- Understanding crew roles and boat mechanics
- Developing crew communication skills
- Boat handling fundamentals and boat control
- Introduction to body weight placement and sail trim
- Introducing fleet racing concepts and practicing fleet race starts
Day 2 Training Program – Friday (1000 - 1600)
- Reinforcing crew roles, communication, and boat mechanics
- Developing roll tacks, roll gybes, and pressing out of manoeuvres
- Race tactics and strategy in fleet racing
- Introduction to match racing concepts and rules
- Learning pre-start manoeuvres and practicing match racing starts
Eligibility
Sailors who want to join the Performance Squad must be aged between 13-18 years old and have demonstrated sailing ability at club level, through a sailing course or sailed in general. Submit an application of 200 words or less outlining sailing goals and previous sailing experience and ability to commit to the program addressed to Luke Allison - ysf.coach@cycsa.com.au

Program Focus:
The Advanced Fleet Program is designed to enable participants to train to compete.
The coaching is regular, with extended personal commitment, plus commitment to club and class association racing or competition.
