Ready to introduce your kids to the thrill of sailing? Our Start Sailing program is the perfect way for 7–12 year olds to dive into the world of dinghy sailing in a safe, fun, and hands-on environment. Using our stable and kid-friendly Pacer boats, young sailors will learn the basics of boat handling, water safety, and teamwork all while having a blast on the water! Led by qualified instructors and full of games, laughter, and new friendships, this course is the ultimate way to spark a lifelong love of sailing. No experience needed just bring a sense of adventure!

🗓️ Little Skippers: Start Sailing 1 – Program Overview

Day 1: Getting Started

• Learn how to rig and set up a dinghy
• Practice tying essential sailing knots
• Launch and retrieve boats with your instructor
• Enjoy your first on-water experience as a crew member
• Learn the basics of steering and controlling the boat

Day 2: Adventure & Confidence Building

• Practice capsize recovery in a safe, shallow environment
• Take the helm and build confidence steering the boat
• Enjoy fun sailing games and team activities
• Choose from stand-up paddleboarding, RIB rides, and group challenges
• Finish the course with plenty of time on the water refining your skills!

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 And Start Sailing 2 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
