Intermediate / Performance Match Racing Program – Elliott 7s

CYCSA Match Racing
Intermediate/Performance Program – Elliott 7s
The CYCSA Match Racing Performance Program offers sailors an exciting opportunity to develop and refine their skills within the fast-paced and tactical world of match racing in the Elliott 7 fleet.
Designed for active club sailors and those looking to progress into performance-level sailing, this program focuses on building confidence and capability in one-on-one, boat-on-boat racing. Sailors will gain a deeper understanding of match racing strategy, rules, and race control, while continuing to advance their keelboat handling skills.
Across the program, participants will develop key areas including pre-start tactics, close-quarters boat handling, communication, and race execution, all essential for success in match racing.
Held over two days, this program provides a high-energy and supportive environment for sailors to challenge themselves, enhance their performance, and take the next step in their sailing pathway while enjoying competitive racing and building strong team connections.
The program will be delivered by qualified AS coaches, with details of the coaching team to be confirmed and shared closer to the day.
Across the program, sailors will work on:
- Advanced boat handling and control in close quarters
- Effective crew communication and role execution
- Pre-start strategy and positioning to gain early control
- Applying key rules from the Racing Rules of Sailing in real scenarios
- Upwind and downwind tactics, including covering and positioning
- Spinnaker handling in match racing situations
- Managing penalties and pressure moments
- Building confidence in race execution from start to finish
The program combines on-water drills, scenario-based training, and short-course racing to simulate real match racing conditions and accelerate performance.
