About Us
Setting A New Course (SANC, formerly Veteran Sailing SA) is totally FREE program open to all current serving ADF members, Veterans and First Responders*. SANC is all about getting people out on the water and providing a productive social and physical outlet for those with similar backgrounds.
Sailing is a great sport that offers positive social and physical engagement while teaching new skills and fostering a sense of community. Whether you have a ton of sailing experience or have never set foot on a boat, we have you covered. With qualified instructors, up-to-date safety equipment and multiple boats catering for all skill levels, there’s something for everyone.
Come and join us for a friendly afternoon on the water and start enjoying your new favourite sport^ now. Any questions? Find us on Facebook at Setting A New Course or @sancsailing on Instagram, or drop us an email at sancsailing@gmail.com
What to expect
On arrival, follow the signs for SANC and meet the group. After a safety brief, we will collect life jackets and sails before heading down to prepare the boats for the water. We will then head out for around 90 minutes of sailing before returning to dock and pack the boats up. We will debrief afterwards over a free sausage sizzle; a great chance to socialise and share your experience.
What to wear
Be sun smart! Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide.
We recommend a long sleeve shirt, a hat that you don’t mind losing (it can get windy!) and ideally some non marking shoes (eg. Dunlop Volleys). Some gloves can be beneficial for windy days to avoid rope burn, gardening gloves work fine.
A spray jacket is handy to have during the colder months.
Always bring a change of clothes and a towel in case you get wet, the change room facilities at the club are top notch.
*Includes Police, Fire, Paramedics, CFS, SES, RFDS, ER Staff. For eligibility questions email sancsailing@gmail.com
^This is a sporting event and therefore a basic level of physical fitness is required to participate.
Note: This is not an Australian Sailing accredited course and instead is conducted by the school/club/organisation, outside of the Australian Sailing framework.
