Certificated Skipper Training Program: Coach Lead Weekly during 2026

The Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia (CYCSA) is running an exclusive Women's Training Program designed to help women develop the tactical skills, confidence, and leadership to become great match racing skippers.

Weekly training commenced in September 2025 and the season will culminate in the inaugural Women's Match Racing Regatta on the 18th of April 2026. Match racing is fast, focused, and fiercely fun - the ideal training ground to sharpen your racing instincts and prepare to skipper yachts in club and regatta competitions.

Training will be conducted aboard the CYCSA's Elliott 7 racing yachts, giving you hands-on experience in performance boats used in competitive sailing.

Participants should have a basic understanding of sailing fundamentals- knowing which line is loaded, identifying tacks, understanding what each halyard, sheet and control line does, and be able to tie basic nautical knots. From there, our experienced coaches will take you through the art of match racing strategy, teamwork, and race winning decision making.

Renowned female sailor Lesley Jean Roberts, current CYCSA coach, heads up the coaching team. Lesley is winner of the Philippine Open Match Race Championships in 1992, (Dragon Class) and winner of the 2002 Open Regional Match Race Champion, South Australia (Flying Fifteen Class).  email: womensmatchracingsa@gmail.com
