Ready to introduce your kids to the thrill of sailing? Our Start Sailing program is the perfect way for 7–12 year olds to dive into the world of dinghy sailing in a safe, fun, and hands-on environment. Using our stable and kid-friendly Pacer boats, young sailors will learn the basics of boat handling, water safety, and teamwork—all while having a blast on the water! Led by qualified instructors and full of games, laughter, and new friendships, this course is the ultimate way to spark a lifelong love of sailing. No experience needed—just bring a sense of adventure!

🗓️ Little Skippers: Start Sailing 1 – Program Overview

Day 1: Getting Started

• Learn how to rig and set up a dinghy

• Practice tying essential sailing knots

• Launch and retrieve boats with your instructor

• Enjoy your first on-water experience as a crew member!

Day 2: Building Confidence

• Practice capsize recovery in a safe, shallow environment

• Learn how to take the helm and steer the boat

• Join in fun sailing games and activities throughout the day

Day 3: Choose Your Own Adventure!

• Kids help plan part of the session—choose from:
  • Stand-up paddleboarding
  • Powerboat rides on the RIB
  • Fun group games

• Spend the rest of the day sailing, building confidence, and refining your skills on the water

Dates: Saturdays – 11/10, 18/10, and 01/11
Duration: 9-hour program (3 x 3-hour sessions)

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Sailing 1 And Start Sailing 2 completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
