๐Ÿ“ Table Tennis Etiquette & Expectations

Players are expected to:

  • Show sportsmanship and respect to opponents and umpires.

  • Follow customary manners to keep the game enjoyable for all.

  • Understand that failure to follow these rules may lead to suspension or termination from CDTTA activities.


๐Ÿค On-Court Behaviour

๐ŸŽฏ Lucky Points (Nets & Edges)

  • Lift your index finger to apologise if you win with a lucky net or edge.

  • Spectators should not clap or cheer lucky points.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Celebrations

  • Celebrations like “Cho” are acceptable, but:

    • Must not be too loud or excessive.

    • Must not celebrate opponent’s faults.

    • Be respectful of surrounding courts.

๐Ÿšซ Verbal & Equipment Abuse

  • Not tolerated:

    • Throwing rackets

    • Hitting tables

    • Swearing or yelling

    • Hitting balls away


๐Ÿ“ Rules That Must Be Obeyed

1. Service Toss

  • Must toss ball vertically, from an open palm.

  • Dropping or hitting from your hand is illegal.
    (ITTF Rule 2.06.01)

2. Service Visibility

  • Ball must be visible to the opponent at all times.

  • Must start behind the end line and above table level.

3. Scoring & Umpiring

  • Score should be announced clearly before and after each point.

  • Umpires must apply rules, especially for illegal serves.


๐Ÿค— Sportsmanship

๐Ÿง Be Honest

  • If a point was wrongly awarded to you, and you know it was wrong, correct it.

  • Honesty earns respect.


๐Ÿ” Practice & Warm-Up Etiquette

During Warm-Up:

  • Block gently for your opponent to help them warm up.

  • Avoid smashing or trying to win points.

  • Apologise if you mishit the ball.

Typical Flow:

  1. Forehand-to-forehand rally – 30 sec

  2. One player loops, other blocks – 20 sec

  3. Swap roles – 20 sec

  4. Repeat all with backhands


๐Ÿง Inspecting Opponent’s Racket

  • Do not touch the playing surface of the rubber.

  • If needed, only touch the label or edge.

  • Respect your opponent’s equipment.


โš ๏ธ Ball Going Into Another Court

  • Only the umpire should call "LET" (with raised arm).

  • Players waiting for a ball must:

    • Wait until the point is over or let is called.

    • Make eye contact before retrieving it.


๐Ÿงด Equipment & Court Cleanliness

Water Bottles & Towels

  • Water bottles should be kept off the court.

  • Towels can be brought in but:

    • Not hung on barriers.

    • Must be placed near the umpire’s chair or towel box.

Sponges

  • Used to clean dust/slippery floors.

  • Must be stored under the net during play and removed after.


๐Ÿšซ Wiping Hands on the Table

  • Do not wipe hands on the table:

    • It spreads germs and oil.

    • Can affect ball movement.

  • Use your towel every 6 points instead.


๐Ÿค Shaking Hands After Match

  • Shake hands with:

    • Your opponent

    • The umpire(s)

    • Both coaches

  • Slapping hands is not respectful.
