About Rowing at CLRC

Capital Lakes Rowing Club - Rowing Programs

Capital Lakes Rowing Club offers rowing and rowing training at all levels - Learn to Row, Novice, Competitive, Elite Pathway, Social and Para-rowing. Rowing Programs are for all ages and abilities and training is conducted by qualified and experienced coaches.

Organised sessions are held on most mornings: 6:30 - 7:30am weekdays, and 6.30 - 7:30 am weekends.

The Club participates in the Winter Time Trial series, local ACT regattas and selected interstate regattas. Social rowers have a great time and enjoy many social trips away to NSW, Victoria and further afield. Please see details of the CLRC Rowing Calendar at the attached link.

Learn to Row

At Capital Lakes we offer the 'Go Rowing' course for people wishing to learn to row. This course has been developed by the national body - Rowing Australia, and provides an excellent introduction to the sport of rowing and to the aquatic environment. The course consists of six two-hour lessons. It covers the basic sculling stroke (rowing with two oars), basic care and set up of the rowing boat, safety in the aquatic environment, and some of the rules while on the water. The cost of the 6 session learn to row program is $250.

For more information on Learn To Row courses contact us via email: capitallakes@gmail.com or visit the Learn to Row page.

Please email us your interest in the course and we will contact you when the new courses commence.

To Keep Rowing...

After completing the Go Rowing course, novice rowers are welcome to join the club and participate in organised rowing training, initially through a transition program of about 12 weeks.

Masters Rowing

The Club has an expanding Masters program suited for male and female rowers who are either coming back to rowing after an (often long) break, or for those who wish to take up the sport for the first time. Masters is for rowers over 27 years, with many members who continue rowing into their 60s and 70s. CLRC conducts separate Go Rowing learn to row programs for Masters and trains at similar times to junior and senior rowers.

We have an active social network and enjoy heading away on rowing trips - which have recently included rowing on the Tweed River, Sydney Harbour, Sale River, Bateman's Bay, Nowra and Lake Jindabyne.

For more information on Master’s rowing, contact capitallakes@gmail.com

Social Rowing

For those Masters rowers who would prefer to row for fun, fitness and friendship, social rowing is available at specified times with coaching provided on an ad-hoc basis. If you are going to row socially with CLRC we would love it if you made time to enjoy a cup of coffee or breakfast with us after our weekend rows.

Junior Rowing

The strength of the club is in its Junior Rowing Program. CLRC is the only club in Canberra who offers learn to row and training to all junior rowers and not just those participating in dedicated Private School programs. We are currently supporting Junior Rowers from Merici and St Clares College, Telopea High School, Narabundah College and a number of other schools.

Junior rowers participate in all of the local ACT Regattas and undertake training over a number of days per week to prepare for local competitions. All Junior Rowers are assigned a qualified coach and no Junior is permitted to train or row without supervision.

CLRC can support both Schools programs and individual rowers looking to start rowing or train in our squads.

Competition

Rowers who wish to participate during the regatta season are organised into squads according to ability. Each squad has a coach who will arrange regular training sessions. All junior rowers are expected to compete in the local regattas.

Para-rowing

Para-rowing provides athletes with a physical or intellectual impairment the opportunity to be active on the water, get involved in a fun and friendly club environment, and participate in a variety of competitions from club regattas through state and national championships to world championships and Paralympic games. The sport can cater for athletes with a variety of impairments. Please contact the club for further information about participating in this program. Capital Lakes Rowing Club currently has a number of para-rowers as members who enjoy weekly rowing sessions, supported by volunteers from within the Club.
