THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES OR ROUTINES THAT ARE TAUGHT IN CALISTHENICS, WHICH IS WHY IT IS CONSIDERED SUCH A DIVERSIFIED SPORT.


 

CORE CALISTHENIC ITEMS

FIGURE MARCH

Marching in teams to execute many intricate formations and patterns while maintaining correct deportment and identical rhythm.

ROD EXERCISES

The manipulation of an aluminium rod approximately 5-10 mm in diameter while executing positions similar to those in Freearm demonstrating coordination, flexibility and control.

FREEARM

A series of strong movements, involving high levels of flexibility and agility, demonstrating imaginative choreography and the physical capabilities of the performers.

AESTHETIC

A ballet influenced discipline showing the team's ability to interpret the music in graceful movements. The music should be chosen to suit the particular age group and will be soft and flowing, enabling a variety of facial and body expressions to be shown.

CLUB SWINGING

The swinging of clubs in unison with perfect rhythm in a circular movement developing fine motor skills and multitasking.

RHYTHMICAL AESTHETIC

A ballet influenced routine including elevated steps, soft movement of the upper body, and head positioning to enhance interpretation of the music.

 

 

CALISTHENIC FANCY ITEMS

 

 

SONG AND DANCE

Teams combine singing with modern and jazz dance steps.

 

STAGE MEDLEY

This includes a balance of singing, calisthenic physical work and dance. Stage Medley items should have a theme that is maintained through the use of music, singing,

DANCE RODS

This item combines the manipulation of rod apparatus with jazz and modern dance in a fun, enegetic and vibrant routine. Dance Rods is only performed by age section from Intermediates. 

CALISTHENIC REVUE

These routines can combine dancing, singing, gymnastics, balletic movements, acting, comedy and more. Revue allows coaches great freedom in choreographic creativity, often resulting in items that are like miniature theatre productions.

CALISTHENIC SPECTACULAR

A routine where teams are encouraged to combine many aspects of calisthenics plus dancing, singing, gymnastics, ballet movements, comedy and costume changes - all designed to make this a breathtaking routine. The routine should be equally balanced 50% physical exercises and 50% dance to the chosen theme.

RHYTHMIC INTERPRETATION

Should be based on an Aesthetic style or classical dance style that includes many steps of elevation, body line, natural grace, dance quality, poise and interpretation of the theme. The dance can be set to a variety of rhythms. The soloists and chorus may portray the story or theme and create and atmosphere pertaining to the mood. Due to the strength and techniques involved, this routine is only taught in the older age groups.

 

 

 

SOLO, DUO AND TRIO ITEMS

 

CALISTHENIC SOLO

A Calisthenic Solo is performed by a single participant and should comprise a combination of calisthenic physical work and dance. The music, choreography and performer must combine together to give a harmonious presentation.

CALISTHENIC DUOS AND TRIOS

Calisthenic Duos are performed by two participants. Trios are performed by a three participants. Duo and Trio item comprise a combination of calisthenic physical work and dance. The music and choreography should showcase the performers' personalities and include partner and small group skills and movements. 

GRACEFUL SOLO

A Graceful Solo is performed by a single performer with music and choreography that is well balanced, has light and shade, elevation and a variety of movements linked with fluency and softness.
