PRO Race Management & Safety Workshop
Sat 05 Dec 2026 09:30 - 11:30

Event information

The PRO Race Management & Safety workshop is designed for volunteers who are taking on, or interested in developing their skills as, a Principal Race Officer (PRO).

This workshop focuses on the decisions and responsibilities of the PRO from the race tower, helping you build confidence in planning and managing racing and responding effectively when safety incidents occur.

The session will cover:

  • The importance of effective volunteer briefing and being prepared for the day
  • Selecting appropriate courses for keelboat and off-the-beach fleets
  • Shortening course procedures
  • Finishing procedures
  • The PRO’s role during a safety incident
  • Understanding the chain of command and when to escalate an emergency response
  • The resources and support available to the PRO during an incident

The workshop provides an opportunity to explore the practical decisions a PRO needs to make before and during racing, with a particular focus on safe, well-organised race management.

Before attending

We strongly encourage you to complete the Australian Sailing Race Officer – Introduction e-learning course before attending. It provides useful background knowledge and will help you get more out of the workshop.

If you’re interested in developing your skills as a PRO, this workshop is a great opportunity to build your knowledge and confidence.
