Interested in helping with race management from the shore? The Race Tower Team Workshop is an introduction to an important race-day volunteer role, and is a great way to get involved without needing previous race management experience.

Working alongside the Principal Race Officer (PRO), the tower team helps monitor competitors and the course area throughout racing, providing an important link between what is happening on the water and in the race tower.

The workshop will cover:

• Tracking off-the-beach boats leaving and returning to shore and checking them against the sign-on list
• Monitoring the course area throughout racing
• Keeping track of boats that retire and return to shore
• Assisting with recording finishing times
• The role of the tower radio operator and their additional responsibilities
• An introduction to results data entry for those interested in developing their skills further

Good eyesight and hearing are helpful for the role. Sailing knowledge is useful but not required.

Before attending

The Australian Sailing Race Officer – Committee & Finish Boat and Scorer e-learning courses are recommended and will provide useful background for the tower team role.
