Event information
The Race Officer Essentials Workshop is designed for start boat and course boat volunteers, Principal Race Officers (PROs) and sailors wanting to build their knowledge and confidence in race management.
This classroom-based session provides an introduction to the skills and knowledge needed to support and lead race management at BYS. Topics include:
- Roles and responsibilities on the committee boat
- Starting and finishing procedures
- Key racing rules and their application
- Race Officer tasks before, during and after racing
- Course options at BYS and how to select appropriate locations
- Monitoring conditions throughout racing
- The On-Water Emergency Response Guidelines
It’s a valuable introduction for volunteers new to race management and a useful refresher for those with existing experience.
Before attending
We strongly encourage you to complete the Australian Sailing Race Officer – Committee & Finish Boat and Race Officer – Introduction e-learning courses before attending. They provide useful background knowledge and will help you get more out of the workshop.
The e-learning is a great way to prepare, but all volunteers interested in developing their race management skills are welcome to attend.
