Team Application for Youth Sporsboat Regatta, 18-19 April 2026. 

Interested squad sailors are encouraged to form a team and submit an application for selection to represent BYS.

Selected teams will have a boat allocated to them for the regatta period. This allocation allows teams to set up and tune their boat without swapping boats between teams each week. The allocated boats will be available for:

• Juno Trophy Sprint Series: Sunday 12 Oct, Sunday 16 Nov & Sunday 21 Dec
• Aggregate Series: Sunday 26 Oct, Sunday 7 Dec, Sunday 4 Jan, Sunday 8 Feb & Sunday 29 Mar
• J70 Victorian Champs: 21-23 November (Regatta entry paid by BYS)
• Kudnig Trophy Series: Sunday 25 Jan, Sunday 1 Mar & Sunday 15 Mar
• Any additional training days the team wishes to use the boat.

Teams selected to represent BYS must participate in the two Juno Series days. While some fill-in crew is acceptable, the boat must race on these days ensuring race time to develop team and crew work. The Club will cover the regatta entry fee for selected teams, but individual sailors will need to pay their own J/70 Australian Class Association Membership fee ($45 with a 50% discount for under 25). https://www.j70australia.org/registration

Responsibilities of Selected Teams:

• Boat Maintenance: Teams are expected to wash and maintain their allocated boat, as well as assist with boat and regatta preparation.
• Mentoring: As part of contributing to the Youth J/70 Squad, all selected sailors must participate in two "mentoring and helping days" over the season, assisting newer J/70 sailors during club racing events.
• Behaviour: All sailors will display good sportsmanship and the BYS Family, Friendship, Sailing values. 

Selection Criteria:

All applications will be considered with emphasis on performance outcomes as well as the learning and development of up-and-coming competitive sailors. Mixed-gender teams are strongly encouraged.

Application Deadline:

Applications are due Thursday 26 March. Please submit as soon as possible. After this date, any unallocated boats will be offered to BYS members subject to a boat usage charge plus their regatta entry fee.
