Powerboat Handling

The Powerboat Handing is a course designed to introduce you to practical driving skills, trip planning, boat maintenane and safety equimpment and imporve your boat handling skills, especially in confined areas such as marinas and in swell and waves.

The Powerboat Handling course will cover areas such as passage planning, sourcing weather information, powerboat terminology and rules, boat launching and docking as well as man overboard recovery and boat handling techniques in swells and waves.

Following on from Powerboat Handling, is our Safety Boat Operator course designed to provided the skills needed to support water based activities at clubs and recreations centres.


Course Overview
This one-day course is designed to improve your boat handling skills, especially in confined areas such as marinas and in swell and waves. You will learn more about engines and types of crafts and practise navigation techniques on a passage. In some instances, you can take your completion certificate to your State Maritime Regulator and gain the State Boat License. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident. The skills and knowledge gained in Start Powerboating or equivalent power boating experience.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to further develop their powerboat driving skills. This course is also a prerequisite for becoming a Dinghy and/or Windsurfing Instructor.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Powerboat Handling completion certificate.
