Sabot Class

The Sabot is designed to be simple and stable, making it ideal for learning the basics of sailing.  Sabots are relatively small, about 8 feet (2.4 meters) in length and they are light enough to be easily handled by children.

The Sabot has played a significant role in youth sailing development in Australia and many accomplished Australian sailors began their careers in Sabots, learning the fundamentals of sailing and racing in these boats.

The Brisbane Sailing Squadron often offers programs focused on youth sailing, where the Sabot is a frequent choice due to its suitability for young sailors, and it's popularity, which result good fleet sizes at regatttas in Queensland more broadly. Our programs are designed to teach sailing fundamentals, water safety, and racing skills, allowing the young sailors to build confidence, and if they want to, compete with their peers eventually at the highest levels.

Our Learn to Sail programs typically involve Sabots and Optimists.
