Sailing School – Juniors – Tackers

 

Tackers is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed by Australian Sailing  for kids aged 7 to 12. Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of the club to participate. The Tackers program is delivered in small groups by a Australian Sailing qualified Instructors. Juniors generally progress through the three levels in 18 months. This can be accelerated by enrolling in Tackers 2 and Tackers 3 courses during the holidays. 

Tackers 1 – No or little sailing Experience. Ages 7–12

Introduction to sailing, building confidence and having fun on the water. Sailing small boats in pairs. Great way to meet other new sailors. Boat (training Optimist) and life jacket provided. Kids receive a  certificate of achievement.  Remember to bring along a hat, towel, some form of water shoes, a wetsuit (preferred) or clothes that you don't mind getting wet, change of clothes.

Tackers 2 – Completed Tackers 1 or sailed on your own. Ages 7–12

If kids are confident, they can sail a boat on their own with lots of support, supervision and encouragement from the Instructors. Better sailing, tricks and techniques are learnt. Boat (training Optimist) and life jacket provided. Kids receive  a certificate of achievement.

Tackers 3 – Completed Tackers 2 or equivalent skills. Ages 7–12

Learn to make the boat go fast so you can progress to the Development Squad. This is a chance for the kids to sail boats on their own, learning how to make the boat go faster and playing more games. Boat and life jacket provided. Kids receive a certificate of achievement.
