Bridge to Breakers a great success

The Bridge to Breakers Regatta was another great success, and cements itself as one of the most looked forward to events on the sailing calandar. The rain on Friday did little to deter attendance, many happy to arrive that afternoon, set up camp and then take advantage of the local fare at the Harwood Hotel. By Saturday morning, the rain had cleared, the sun was out, and the forecast nor-easter made an early arrival. Rarely above 15 knots, the near perfect conditions allowed all to enjoy a great day on the water with time then to relax, recount the days events, and enjoy some local hospitality whilst dining on the now famed Big River evening meal. Sunday was looking a little more challenging, the moderate northerly was there, faltered, but then stayed in long enough to to allow two more races to cap off a great weekend of sailing.
Division winners included a mix of club members, regular visitors, and first time participants. Local talent Scooter Hinton was unbeatable in the monohull division, scoring three wins from as many races. Josh Franklin was likewise dominant in the faster monohull division, as was Frank O'Rourke in the single handed catamarans, Seamus Coakley in the two handed catamarans, and Steve Brajkovich in the trailable yachts. The Weta class was well represented with six boats, with George Owen the eventual winner. Full results can be accessed from the main menu.
The regatta has also become a memorial event for Grafton and NS14 icon Malcolm Eggins. Sons Darryl and Gary were on hand to present this years winners trophy to Adam Humphries and to also receive a posthumous life membership for Malcom from NS14 Association president Stephen Jones.
