Bang…Ting….Repeat!!
Welcome
B.P.R.C welcomes one and all to our beautiful range.
We are a tight-knit team of shooting enthusiasts who come together to share their passion for firearms and improve their marksmanship skills. We provide a supportive environment for new & current members to learn and grow, while also promoting safety and responsible gun ownership. Oh and heaps of Buchan shenanigans.
Club & Community
Cofounded founded in 2022 by Matt Bishop & Andrew Lind from Gun Sport Trading, Buchan Precision Rifle Club was formed to bring different shooting disciplines closer to home. PRS Overview
Precision rifle competitions are the fastest growing shooting sport and discipline in the world and it’s not hard to see why. It’s challenging, not static and has a culture and community that is built on helping everyone grow and learn. The skills learnt can be applied across other disciplines, hunting and even non-shooting sports.
A typical club match begins with a safety briefing and then 6 to 8 stages.
A stage runs 60 to 120 seconds where you will be presented with 6 to 12 targets at various distances, usually between 250 and 500 meters which you will engage from a number of stable and not so stable positions. Scoring is usually hits on target but may be timed as well.
Equipment
Our strong advice is to first come and shoot a match with the rifle/equipment you have.
At a basic level, you need a rifle with a detachable magazine, a bipod, a scope that dials, and a rear bag.
You will see competitors use a variety of positional bags, rear bags, tripods, slings and other pieces of equipment to help stabilise their positions, but much of this wont be necessary until you have an idea of what works for you.
Our members are only too happy to lend you a piece of equipment to try.
There is a .30 Caliber limit and 3200 fps velocity limit but as Precision rifle matches are a recoil mitigation game, you will see everything from 223 with the 6 and 6.5mm calibers being more common.
We recommend you download and install a ballistic calculator app to your phone before you head out to the range, reception can be spotty if trying to this at Little River. Some of the apps preferred by PRS competitors are Applied Ballistics, Strelok Pro or Ballistics AE. We can help you navigate the app once you’re at the range if it looks a little overwhelming.
How To Get Started
Come and watch a match.
or better yet… Participate by scoring or spotting - this helps you get an idea of how parts of a match run without having to learn it all in one go.
or even better yet.. Shoot the match, run what equipment you have now and don’t worry about how you score. You will walk away with a better idea of what you may need to compete.
You do not need to be a member to shoot your first match or to help out.
