Newsletter - March

The National Futures Program hit the ground running in February with a eight-day High performance environment Elite emerging camp in Queensland lead by Boxing Australia’s National coach Jamie Pittman. Boxing Australia would like to thank Combat Institute of Australia for funding this opportunity for our emerging athletes.

In the eight days the athletes were well supported by Queensland Academy of Sport and were put through specific track sessions, S and C sessions and recovery sessions.

The athletes have also all benefitted from regular sparring sessions with a range of experienced Queensland based training partners at various locations including the Eastside boxing gym and All Stars boxing gym.

The Futures Program would like to thank the local athletes and gyms that supported the camp.

The State Futures coaches stayed busy in the month of February with four selection camps across Australia. The coaches selected the state’s best performing Junior, Youth and Elite boxers in their state after having made assessments against the selection criteria. Both WA and ACT will hold state Futures selection camps in the first weekend of March.

Boxing Australia’s National coach Jamie Pittman presented a two-day development camp in Tasmania; Hobart on 19-20 February. Both days included training sessions and a coaches committee meeting.

The Futures Program has camps planned for March in WA, ACT, SA, NSW, QLD, VIC, and an open camp in NT.

The “Battle of the Belts” 63.5KG Men’s elite belt is up for challenge on 26 February 2022 with Brenton Watts from Boxing Club Tractor changeling Bradon Dunning Top Team Fitness and Boxing in South Australia.

CombatAUS has organised and gained support from GB Boxing for a 3-4 week preparation and training camp in Sheffield throughout April 2022 for the eleven athletes qualified for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. This will be a fully-funded exercise to enable the team to engage in an international training and sparring camp with quality international partners to best ready themselves for that campaign. In addition CombatAUS will host a 1-2 week staging camp in Brisbane in June supported through the Queensland Academy of Sport to undertake targeted training and medical servicing. From there the team will depart to a multi-nations sparring camp in Northern Ireland directly prior to arriving in Birmingham for the Games. More information on these activities will be provided immediately following the National Selection Event in Melbourne.
