Do you appreciate how important good officiating is?
Want to see badminton improve?
Want to give something back to the sport you love?

Want to help us grow badminton in Western Australia?

Then enrol in this umpiring course.

This course is best suited for individuals living in WA who are:

  • Interested in a deeper and more structured understanding of the Laws of Badminton and the role of an umpire;
  • Keen to support the game of badminton being played fairly, correctly and safely in the best interest of the players, spectators, clubs, and the broader community
  • Able to commit some time to practice umpiring at Badminton WA tournaments taking place throughout the year (with mentoring / feedback from the more experienced Badminton WA officials)
  • Willing to undergo a two-part (theory + practice) assessment in order to achieve National Accredited Umpire status within 12 months following the course. The theory exam can be taken either immediately after the conclusion of the course (expect an additional 1.5-2 hrs), or later by separate arrangement.
  • Potentially interested to pursue higher umpiring qualifications (as they continue to gain practical experience) which may offer opportunities to travel interstate or internationally to various levels of badminton events.
  • The course will be delivered by Kelly Hoare, BWF Umpire Assessor.
  • Pre-course reading material will be provided - please expect to spend 3-8 hours before the course (depending on your prior knowledge of the Laws of Badminton and experience with badminton competition)
