2023 WA UNDER 17 STATE TEAM INFORMATION

Badminton Australia has age eligibility requirements. For this U17 event “Players must be above the age of 12 as of the 1st January in the year of the championships and below the age of 17 as at 31 December 2023.”

Please read the following information prior to completing the Nomination Form:

Event & Other Information
 

  • This team will be playing in the U17 Australia National Team Championship (competing for the JUNE BEVAN TROPHY ) followed by the U17 Australian National Individual Championship.
    • This event will be held in Ballarat, Victoria
    • Date of Event: 25– 30 September 2023
    • A team will be selected to represent WA – a minimum of four girls and four boys to a maximum of five girls and five boys.
    • The team will be supported by a Coach, Manager and Umpire.
  1. Badminton WA supports this team by:
  • Paying the Team Entry Fee of $690.
  • Paying the Coach $1,000 for team training sessions prior to the departure of the Team
  • Paying an Honorarium of $600 each to the Coach, Manager and Umpire
  • Subsidising the airfares for the Coach, Manager & Umpire to the amount of $600 each
  • Subsidising the accommodation for the Coach, Manager & Umpire to the amount of $350 each
  • Organising and paying for the Selection Trials (court hire and shuttles)
  • Appointing Selectors
  • Organising Team uniforms which will be paid for by players.
  • Providing supporting documentation for Local Council sporting grants etc if required.
  1. Nomination & Selection:
  • By completing the nomination form and paying the appropriate fee the player is stating that he/she will take his/her place in the team if selected. Withdrawal from the team after nomination or selection may incur a financial penalty.
     
  • No player may take part in any trial sessions unless he or she is a registered member of Badminton WA.
     
  • No player may take part in any trial sessions unless the Nomination Form is fully completed and accompanied by the required nomination fee. This must be done prior to the date of the first session.
     
  • The Nomination fee is $170. ($50 is a non-refundable administration fee). $120 is refundable within 14 days if not selected. If selected, the $120 will go toward costs for training sessions.
     
  • The Nomination fee of $170 has to be made via the portal link provided.

  1. Training and trials:

Attendance at trials and training is compulsory regardless of the time or venue. Times and venues to be advised. Note: Any exception to this requirement must be approved by the Board of Management.

Trial times and Venue: Saturday 22 July 2023.

Team announced: end of July 2023

Team training: Dates, times and venue to be advised following appointment of the Coach.

  1. Training costs:

$120 of the Nomination fee will go towards Team Training fees for training sessions.

  1. Payments:
    • The payment schedule to cover the cost of airfares, accommodation and other expenses will be provided by the Team Manager but will start with
      1. $500.00 at the first training session and
      2. Followed by further payments as determined by the Team Manager
  2. Estimated Costs:

    This information is provided to give players an estimate of the costs involved.
    • The Manager will endeavour to obtain the cheapest airfare. Please be aware that any changes required by players after airfares have been purchased, eg different departure dates must be done through the Manager and all costs incurred shall be met by the player.
       
    • Players and officials are expected to travel and stay together (possible exception is the Umpire).


 

  • The Manager will endeavour to obtain the cheapest accommodation in self-catering apartments or similar.

The costs listed below are indicative only for each player and based on a ten (10) player team

        • Airfare: approx. $1000 (current online indication)
        • Accommodation: approx. 8 nights = $600 (based on Airbnb rate for 10 people)
        • Bus/car hire & fuel: $200 each
        • Food: $30 per day x 8 days = $240
        • Travel insurance: $35
  • Entry fees for Individual Championships at Carnival—$120
  • State Team uniform costs - to be advised
  • Spending money

Estimated Total of known costs: $2195.

  1. Fundraising and Sponsorships:
  • The above costs do not take into account any fund raising/sponsorships.
     
    • The Manager determines what fund raising will be done. All players are required to be involved with fund raising on request by the Manager.
       
  1. Player Agreement
     

Once selected in the team each player must sign the player agreement – a copy of which is attached.
 

Signing the agreement indicates that both the player and parent/guardian, where applicable has read all the information in these notes and in the Player Agreement and agrees to the conditions.
