Adelaide University Judo Club is delivering an on-line Train-the-Trainer program for judo coaches ain Australia and Overseas. 

The program will run over the weekend (Adelaide, SA time-zone):

  Saturday 18th October - 3.30pm to 5.30pm (Session 1 & 2)
  Sunday 19th October   - 4.00pm to 6.30pm  (Session 3 & 4)

(Additional on-line content to be viewed prior to the Workshop, as part of Session 1)

 

 

Training Content:

 Session 1              Introduction to the Course

        • Need for the Intervention (the ageing body, falls, exercise)
        • Principles and phases of motor learning
        • Physics of Falling and Judo-based stable postures and concepts

                            Outline of the Dynamic Balance for Life (DBfL) Program

        • Program structure and intent and Development of DBfL
        • Falls scenarios and behaviour change 
        • Risks management, customisation, equipment, case studies                            

Session 2           Working with an older adult

        • Core strength & Balance considerations for a safe landing for older adults
        • Avoiding a Fall, situational awareness, standing stable stance
        • Recovery from a fall 
        • Warm-up, Balance and Strength Exercises & Fun – Games for skill competency

 

Session 3           Teaching DBfL modified Ukemi - Landing safely - using a micro progression approach

        • Teaching Ushiro ukemi (Backward falls) to older adults 
        • Teaching Yoko ukemi (side falls) to older adults – off front and back foot, left & right
        • Teaching Mae ukemi (front flat falls) to older adults 
        • Modified Mae mawari ukemi (front rolls) to older adults

 

Session 4            Bringing it together

        • Review and practise taisabaki
        • Ukemi routine in the DBfL course
        • Building confidence and ‘testing‘ each ukemi skill
        • Review the on-line resources on the new DBfL website 
        • Implementation in your dojo
        • Promotional approach and target audience
        • Continuing skills development; partnership with your local/physio practice

Assessment – practical and questionnaire


Once a participant has completed the training and assessment, they are issued with a Certificate by AUJC, endorsed by Judo Australia and licensed to deliver the DBfL program at their dojo, clinic or other venue
