Adelaide University Judo Club has partnered with JudoNSW to deliver a face-to-face Train-the-Trainer program for judo coaches in Sydney and the surrounding areas. 

The program will run over the weekend:

  Saturday 6 September - 9.30am to 12.30pm
  Sunday 7 September - 10am to 4pm (with a short lunch break)

 

Training Content:

 Session 1              Introduction to the Course

·       Need for the Intervention (the ageing body, falls, exercise)

·       Physics of Falling and Judo-based stable postures and concepts

                            Outline of the Dynamic Balance for Life (DBfL) Program

·       Program structure and intent and Development of DBfL

·       Falls scenarios and behaviour change 

·       Risks management, customisation, equipment, case studies

·       Principles and phases of motor learning
                           

Session 2            Teaching DBfL modified Ukemi - Landing safely - using a micro progression approach

·    Teaching Ushiro ukemi tutorial 

·       Teaching Yoko ukemi (side falls) to older adults – off front and back foot, left & right

·       Teaching Mae ukemi to older adults

·        Modified Mae mawari ukemi (front rolls) to older adults

 


Session 3            Working with an older adult

·       Core strength & Balance considerations for a safe landing for older adults

·       Recovery from a fall 

·       Avoiding a Fall, situational awareness, standing stable stance

·       Warm-up, Balance and Strength Exercises & Fun – Games for skill competency

 

Session 4            Bringing it together

·       Review and practise taisabaki

·       Ukemi routine in the DBfL course

·       Building confidence and ‘testing‘ each ukemi skill

·       Review the on-line resources on the new DBfL website 

·       Implementation in your dojo

·       Promotional approach and target audience

·       Continuing skills development; partnership with your local/physio practice

Assessment – practical and questionnaire

Once a participant has completed the training and assessment, they are issued with a Certificate by AUJC, endorsed by Judo Australia and licensed to deliver the DBfL program at their dojo
